Goku (孫 悟空, Son Gokū), born Kakarot (カカロット, Kakarotto), is the main protagonist of the Dragon Ball metaseries created by Akira Toriyama and is used by Gojiran.

Front Information

Goku is the adoptive grandson of Grandpa Gohan, the son of Bardock and Gine, husband of Chi-Chi, father of Gohan and Goten, and the grandfather of Pan--Videl and Gohan's daughter. Cheerful, courageous, and also a bit naive, Goku is a Saiyan of pure blood originally sent to destroy the planet Earth as only an infant but to later mature with the same mission on his mind. Later in the Dragon Ball series, an accident ultimately alters his mind, converting him from developing onto a cold-hearted destructive being, to developing into a pure-hearted incredible warrior and becoming one of Earth's greatest warrior's and as well as the informal leader of the Z Fighters. Throughout his life, he trains hard and strives to be the greatest warrior possible, while also using his amazing powers and skills to uphold peace.

Dragon Ball

Goku's long journey began after his fateful encounter with sixteen-year-old Bulma. She told him she was searching for the mystical Dragon Balls, seven orbs that could grant the user one wish. The following journey was long and treacherous, but he pulled through, even making friends along the way.

After everything was over, Goku became the student of the perverted, yet wise, Master Roshi and trained under him and slowly became friends with a new training partner: Krillin. He participated in the Tenkaichi Budokai, a yearly fighting tournament, to hone his skills but ended up losing in the final round. This failure didn't discourage Goku, but rather, it pushed him forward in his efforts to become stronger.

Goku decided to search for the Dragon Balls again, but he instead came face-to-face with a new threat: The Red Ribbon Army. After a series of run-ins and battles that spanned across the globe, he finally put an end to the group's schemes.

Goku, once again, took another shot at the Tenkaichi Budokai. He lost, again. But a new threat was just around the corner.

King Piccolo, who had been sealed in a jar for years upon years, has returned. He sends his minions to kill all of the potential threats to him, including Goku's friends. After a series of tragic deaths, King Piccolo finds the seven Dragon Balls and wishes for eternal youth. With his youth and power restored, King Piccolo declares his conquering of Earth. Gaining a huge power boost, Goku faces off against King Piccolo to avenge his fallen friends. In a long, heated battle, a beaten and battered Goku emerges victorious, once again saving the Earth. However, moments before his death, King Piccolo spawned a new threat: Piccolo Jr.

Meeting up with King Piccolo's good half, Kami, Goku asks him to recreate the Dragon Balls. Kami does so, and all of the people who were killed in King Piccolo's conquest are resurrected.

Three years pass, and Goku returns for the Tenkaichi Budokai. A grown Piccolo Jr. awaits him, vowing to kill him and later rule the world. After a series of matches, the final round begins: Goku vs Piccolo Jr. A fierce and brutal battle follows, but Goku emerges victorious once again.

Goku finally settled down and married Chi Chi, a girl he promised to marry when he was a kid. They conceived a son and called him Gohan. Five years of peace passed before a new enemy approached Earth...

Dragon Ball Z

Goku has spiky black hair that never changes throughout the franchise (besides his transformations, exclusively referring to his base form). He is most commonly seen wearing his trademark orange/red/golden gi over a dark blue undershirt. The gi has featured Master Roshi's, Kami's, King Kai, and Goku's Go kanji on its left side (over the heart area). It is also featured on the back. After the Frieza Saga and during the Androids Saga and Majin Buu Saga, no symbols appear and Goku's gi turns a darker orange. He wears dark blue wristbands along with dark blue boots with a red border that are outfitted with yellow/beige laces. He originally wore a blue obi over his waist, after the Frieza Saga this was changed to a blue sash. During Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’, Goku wore a new version of his orange gi, featuring a new kanji, lacking the dark blue undershirt and wears blue wristbands longer than previous as well as a blue side tied belt and new boots. Then, at the end of Dragon Ball Z, Goku now wears a turqoise gi with a white sash, orange wristbands, dark green pants, and black ordinary kung fu shoes with orange stockings. If we go back to his appearance when he was a kid, he has a tail due to his Saiyan heritage and also wields the Power Pole (Addtional Information: In the mid-start of the Dragon Ball Z series, Goku appears to stop using the power after he has gained much more power even before his Super Saiyan form, although, this, would be reasonable to why he would stop using the Power Pole). He did not wear the blue undershirt and boots until his teenage and adult years, instead wearing simple shoes.

Of course at times, Goku has been seen wearing different clothing other than his orange gi, more civilized clothes, if you will, such as a gray business suit and tie. Though the most notably outfit would after training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber and in the nine days before the Cell Games, he wears casual Earth clothing consisting of an orange-and-black long-sleeved jacket, a white undershirt, lime green pants, and brown boots.

Goku's primarily used skin color would be a pale-beige, but his skin color does appear to change throughout the series. Such as changing to a darker tone and an almost tan at the end of the Dragon Ball Z series and continuing into Dragon Ball GT. His outfit in the GT series consists of a blue gi with a white sash, pink wristbands, ochre pants, and black kung fu shoes with white stockings, which resembles the gi (and likely referencing) he first wore in the Dragon Ball series.

In Dragon Ball Super and Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Goku wears a blue and white track suit, while he trains on King Kai's planet. Afterwards, he wears his Whis Symbol gi during the Resurrection F saga, then goes back to his standard gi from the Future Trunks saga and onwards.

Son Goku (孫悟空) is a Buddhist name that means “The Child Aware of Emptiness” and comes from his character development based on Sun Wukong (in Chinese and Japanese: 孫悟空; Sūn means "grandchild" in both languages and implies his origin as a monkey, and Wùkōng means "Aware of Emptiness") from Journey to the West. The name “Goku” means "awakened to emptiness"; the Go syllable means "Enlightenment", and the Ku syllable means "Sky or Emptiness". Son (孫) is also a common Chinese surname.

Goku is known for his cheerful, very energetic personality and his love of competition; specifically sport fighting and eating. He will literally eat anything (due to being a Saiyan, which they eat about 30-40 meals each day). He has a remarkable intuition at seeing the good in others in spite of their actions, though his capacity for forgiving his enemies has occasionally been criticized as usually excessive; Goku, for the most part, only fights to win, and spares his enemies after defeating them only for them to attack him when his back is turned. His staggering power is simultaneously reined in and enhanced by his fierce loyalty and morality. Goku can also be very blunt, and not afraid to express his honest opinion in a discussion, such as when he questioned Krillin's marriage to Android 18. Despite his kind-hearted nature, Goku can feel incredible anger in cases of extreme turmoil, the death of a close friend/relative, or when someone murders many innocents needlessly. He has a simple, practical view of the world and is somewhat naive to the world around him. Because of this, many characters incorrectly place him to be somewhat stupid, although once he has a basic understanding of things, he learns very quickly. His most remarkable ability is his will to succeed, his tenacity and persistence. He is always determined to push himself beyond his limitations, and never give up even when the odds are stacked against him.

Abilities, techniques, and forms

Goku being a Saiyan and pushing his limits across the sky, he possesses a number of amazing abilities, most notably his Kamehameha, limited teleportation, flight, his speed, strength, and countless others to name. Besides using his skills, he can also be seen using them for social experiments that he is failing at. Here are all of his techniques, abilities, and transformations below.

  • Supernatural Strength - Goku possesses the greatest form of physical strength.
  • Supernatural speed - Goku possesses the greatest form of speed.
  • Supernatural flight - Goku can fly extremely fast.
  • Teleportation - Goku is capable of teleportation.
  • Ki manipulation - Life energy control.
  • Ki blast -- Basic form of an energy wave used throughout the DB series.
  • Invisible Eye Blast -- Goku has the ability shoot an invisible eye blast of ki out of his eyes. He uses this ability twice in the anime. The first (and only time in the manga) was when he used it to dig a hole in the Namekian ground to bury Vegeta's corpse in, after he was killed by Frieza. The second was during the battle against Omega Shenron, when Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta used it to knock Omega several feet back. It is likely that this move is rather weak, as even as a Super Saiyan 4, after fusing with Vegeta, it did nothing but stagger Omega, justifying why he did not use it in any other battles.
  • Able to access the Kaio-Ken. (more explained in the Power-Ups section)
  • Destructo Disk -- The user holds their hand into the air, conducting ki in the form of a razor-sharp disk, which is then hurled over and around the body to cut the target.
  • Kamehameha -- Goku's normal signature energy attack, even though it was invented by Master Roshi. He charges a blue-white energy wave from his hands and releases it out to damage opponent/target. He learned this technique after witnesses Roshi using it to extinguish the fire on Fire Mountain.
  • Continuous Kamehameha -- Goku releases a rapid barrage of energy balls at his opponents, causing a massive accumulation of damage. This is also called the Super Energy Wave Volley.
  • Solar Flare -- The user spreads and places their fingers on their foreheads, discharging a blinding flash of light.
  • Homing Energy Wave -- A move where Goku fires a Ki Blast that targets his enemy. He used it against Pikkon in the episode "Final Round".
  • Saiyan Aura Blast -- A yellow energy wave attack fired with one hand. Named in the Dragon Ball Z Collectible Card Game.
  • Spirit Bomb -- Another of Goku's signature attacks in which he conducts the spirit energy of all nearby living organisms, forming a ball of power and size depending of the amount of harnessed ki energy.
  • Dragonthrow -- Goku's signature grapple throw.
  • Full-Nelson -- Executed by performing half nelsons with both arms, used on Raditz.
  • Hashuu-Ken -- A technique used to counter Tien Shinhan's Four Witches Technique, in which Goku moves his two arms so fast that they each appear to be in four places at once, effectively giving him eight arms to use in combat.
  • Rock, Scissors, N' Paper -- An attack in which Goku delivers either a strong punch, a poke in t he eyes, or an open palm strike.
  • Tornado! -- Goku spins while rushing on the opponent to attack him/her. One of Goku's least used moves which was used against Nam.
  • Afterimage Technique -- This technique is a short burst of extremely high speed, moving faster than the opponent can sense. This has the side effect of leaving a momentary "after image", until the opponent's senses adapt and realize their target has moved.
  • Instant Transmission -- Also called Instantaneous Transmission. The user places their index and middle finger on their head, sensing a very far away location they can teleport to.
  • Mid-Air-Stop -- While falling to the ground, Goku exhales deeply in order to keep himself suspended in the air long enough to dodge. Goku uses this technique during his battle against King Chappa in the preliminaries of the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament.
  • Backbreaker -- Goku smashes his opponent's back. Used against Frieza and named in the Dragon Ball Z Collectible Card Game.
  • Dragon Kick -- A powerful kick attack.
  • Dragon Smash -- A rush used by Goku.
  • Fusion Dance -- The two users, when sharing the same power level, perform a simultaneous and parallel dance, ending with the contact of the users' index fingers, fusing them for half an hour. Should the dance fail, the users take on a disfigured form with low physical and ki abilities. Goku performs this technique four times with Vegeta, but it is only successful twice: twice in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn, and in Dragon Ball GT while in their normal and Super Saiyan 4 forms.
  • Kiai -- An invisible wave of ki emitted from the hand. Used against Chi-Chi, Goz, and later to stop Nappa's Break Cannon.
  • 'Large Spirit Bomb -- Goku's second strongest Spirit Bomb. He charges up for a little while and unleashes the giant ball of energy onto the opponent. It's able to inflict accumulative massive damage.
  • Super Spirit Bomb -- Goku's most powerful Spirit Bomb attack. Goku charges a humongous Spirit Bomb and transforms into a Super Saiyan in the process to strengthen the strength of the Spirit Bomb. After pushing it, this attack will completely destroy or devastate an opponent due to its massive energy in it and its size.
  • Spirit Shock – A double handed Kiai used by Goku against Baby-infected Gohan and Goten in Dragon Ball GT. Named in the Dragon Ball Z Collectible Card Game.
  • Ki Sense -- The ability to sense Ki energy.
  • Super Saiyan power – Goku utilizes some of his Super Saiyan power in his base form. Used against the Ginyu Force in Hell.
  • Telepathy -- A technique that Goku taught himself.
  • Energy Barrier -- Goku used this technique in The Tree of Might.
  • Mimicry – The ability to copy others' techniques after seeing them performed once. Through this, Goku copied the Kamehameha and King Chappa's Hasshu-ken technique.
  • Meteor Combination -- Goku's famous multi-body-part attack, he delivers several rapid punches and kicks before punching the enemy's stomach, stunning them as Goku jumps into the air where he blasts the enemy with a Kamehameha. It was used during the fight with Piccolo. This technique is also used in Budokai Tenkaichi 3, the Raging Blast games, and Attack of the Saiyans.
  • Slashdown Kick -- a dive kick. Goku dives downwards diagonally, with his foot extended.
  • Super Meteor Bashing -- another Meteor-style attack. Goku kicks his opponent up into the air, hammers them back to the ground, then elbows them off to the side. It is similar to the Neo Meteor Juggle.

Great Ape

Goku's Great Ape form. This can be activated if Goku has a tail and looks up at the full moon, causing him to transform and or it was activated when he was a child. Goku can no longer use this form due to his tail being cut off.

  • Stands at about 20m.
  • Cannot fly.
  • Is much slower.
  • Cannot use his techniques.
  • Strength massively increases.
  • Able to shoot fire breath or energy beams/rays out of his mouth.
  • Loud roaring can stun foes for about 30 seconds.

Psuedo Super Saiyan Goku
"Wow, my gosh! What a change! This has never happened before...huh, wait, it's the legend! Goku must have transformed into a Super Saiyan!" „

— King Kai (Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug)

This is Goku's Psuedo Super Saiyan transformation. Red outlines appear in his hair and his hair style turns upwards, he loses the irises in his eyes, he develops a yellowish-gold aura and his body (except clothes) become engulfed in the same color. This form was activated when fighting Lord Slug. It's not stated if Goku can still use this form, but he has not used this form since when he used it against Lord Slug. It is most likely that he cannot use the form, due to the proper mental urge and status achieved in order to transform into a Super Saiyan.

  • Stats are multiplied.

Super Saiyan
"I am the hope of the universe. I am the answer to all living things that cry out for peace. I am protector of the innocent. I am the light in the darkness. I am truth. Ally to good! Nightmare to you!" „

— Goku as a Super Saiyan towards Frieza in "Explosion of Anger".

Goku achieves this powerful transformation in the episode Explosion in Anger. After witnessing the death of his lifelong best friend, Krillin, Goku's inner rage inside him finally explodes out; transforming into the legend that was thought to be a myth. Goku's hair shoots upwards and turns to a golden-yellow color (with aura) or a white-yellow color (without aura), his gi becomes slightly brighter, his eye color becomes a turquoise-green, his muscle mass slightly increases, and has a calmly flowing, golden aura surrounding him. This multiplies a Saiyan's strength 50x fold, as the same goes for Goku.

After finally mastering the Super Saiyan form and all of its previous branches, Goku upgrades this form to Super Saiyan Full Power.

  • Stats are multiplied 50x.
  • Capable of healing.
  • Angry Kamehameha -- Another more powerful version of the Kamehameha, instead of the traditional blue color, the Kamehameha turns into a yellow-white color. The charge takes some time but not too much, firing his big wave onto the opponent to cause accumulative massive damage.
  • Instant Kamehameha -- Goku charges a normal Kamehameha and then teleports directly in front of the opponent at fires it at them point blank.
  • Instant Spirit Bomb -- Goku performs a Spirit Bomb and throws it towards the opponent, then uses Instant Transmission to appear in front of the opponent and hit them in the face with a Blast Fist uppercut before teleporting away, leaving the Spirit Bomb to finish them off.
  • Suspended Blast -- Goku never uses this attack, but it's only used to scare off or threaten a target. He lifts either his right or left arm and charges a blue ball in his hands. This was also used to threaten Supreme Kai so he could battle Majin Vegeta.
  • Super Dragon Fist -- A combination of the Spirit Bomb and Dragon Fist used by Goku in his various Super Saiyan forms. Goku creates a Spirit Bomb and absorbs it before throwing a powerful punch filled with the Spirit Bomb's energy. Used to kill Super Android 13 in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13!. In video games, Goku uses a Spirit Bomb-powered Dragon Fist instead of a regular punch.
  • Now I'm Really Mad! -- A rush attack where Goku punches the opponent away with a left hook and knocks them to the ground with a double axe handle. Used against Frieza shortly after transforming into a Super Saiyan, and named in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z.

Ascended Super Saiyan Goku/2nd Grade Super Saiyan
"It's time for me to move to the next level. Vegeta knows it, too. Through my dreams, I could hear him speaking what I had also felt, that there is a level beyond that of a Super Saiyan... And I will rise to claim it." „

— Goku ("Our Hero Awakes")

Goku achieves this form through intense training with his son Gohan in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. His upward-style hair becomes slightly more raggedy and bigger, and he gains big-muscle mass. This is one of Goku's least used transformations.

  • Stats are multiplied.
  • Strength gains a massive increase.
  • Speed gains a massive increase.

Ultra Super Saiyan Goku/Super Saiyan 3rd Grade Goku
"I know I look like I can, Gohan, but these bulky muscles make it hard to move fast, and if I'm going to beat Cell, I can't have anything slowing me down. I may have great power, but what good is it if I can't catch my enemy? It takes more than brute strength to win a fight." „

— Goku ("The Cell Games")

Goku achieves this form training through more days in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. His hair becomes more raggedy and bigger and he gains much more muscle mass. Goku never uses this form again after the Cell saga.

  • Strength and endurance are multiplied.
  • Speed is decreased greatly.

Super Saiyan 2
"This is known as a Super Saiyan ascended past a Super Saiyan. Or, you could just call this a Super Saiyan 2." „

— Goku in Super Saiyan 3?!

After witnessing his son Gohan transform into a Super Saiyan 2 for the first time, Goku wished to achieve this form and successfully managed to do so with intense training at Kami's Lookout. He uses this form to fight off against Majin Vegeta and to show Babidi and Majin Buu the Super Saiyan forms, while also showing it as a presentation and soon ending up as a "sparring" match in his next form to the God of Destruction Beerus.

Goku's hair becomes very slightly longer, and two bangs reside at his forehead. His hair also becomes spikier and less smooth. His aura is also more flame-like and jagged, while also gaining bright blue bio-electricity that surges around him.

  • Able to access abilities and techniques from previous forms, all multiplied once more.
  • Stats are multiplied 100x.
  • Meteor Blast -- A rush attack used by Super Saiyan 2 Goku against Kid Buu in the anime, as well as in the Raging Blast games.
  • Meteor Crash -- In his Super Saiyan 2 form, Goku charges at the opponent and side kicks them up into the air. Then, he flies up and roundhouse punches the opponent away before flying and reappearing behind them to elbow them in the stomach as they turn around. Finally, Goku attacks the opponent with a punching and kicking barrage and kicks them up into the air before kneeing them in their back and Double Axe Handle punching them down to the ground, inflicting a high amount of damage.

Super Saiyan 3
I'm sorry that took so much longer than the others, heh, but I haven't had much occasion to practice this one. This is what I call a Super Saiyan 3. „

— Super Saiyan 3 Goku presenting his form to Babidi and Majin Buu.

After being knocked out cold by Majin Vegeta, Goku went up to Kame's Lookout to prepare for Majin Buu. In that time, he went through several years of training for obtaining the final Super Saiyan form in Dragon Ball Z. This is a Super Saiyan 3.

Goku's hair becomes thick and smooth again, but lengthens all the way to to his bottom. A single bang resides at his forehead that hangs down. His muscle mass increases slightly as his muscles are slightly more defined. His hair is even more golden, and he loses his eyebrows and his green-turquoise eyes become sterner. His aura is now oval-shaped and is almost static due to the massive energy output of the form. The bio-electricity from Super Saiyan 2 stays but is much more frequent.

  • Access to past abilities and techniques from previous forms, all multiplied once more.
  • Stats are multiplied 400x.
  • True Kamehameha -- Goku's most powerful Kamehameha attack in this form. He charges a yellow-blue-and-electric Kamehameha in his hands, then releases the giant wave upon an opponent, causing incredible damage.
  • Meteor Impact -- As he says "Let's get this started!", Goku double kicks the opponent up into the air. Then, he rushes high into the air behind the opponent to double axe-handle punch and hook kick them down to the ground. Finally, Goku bends down and puts his hand over the opponent's face to blast them with a one-handed Kamehameha, inflicting a great deal of damage.
  • Dragon Fist -- Goku delivers a punch that causes an explosion, summoning a golden dragon to either wrap around the enemy and disintegrate with him, or devour them. This technique was first used in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragon, and is the only one of Goku's techniques that he invented entirely on his own.

Super Saiyan God
"Long ago, a small group of pure-hearted Saiyans pooled their powers together to create a savior... A Super Saiyan God!" „

— Shenron - Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods

Goku achieves this form in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods from gaining the inner power from his Human/Saiyan family and his Saiyan-in-blood brothers. He looks similar to his base form, with minor differences: His hair color turns to a violet-red color, and his hair slightly sticks up, but flows slightly when surrounded in aura. His eye color changes from black to a black-red/violet-red color as well, and his orange gi now changes to a sunrise bright orange color. Goku also possesses a divine, truly flaming aura around his body. Goku's skin color has also changed from a pale beige to a violet-beige. Goku's muscle mass on his entire body also turns to a slightly more skinny appearance.

Goku uses this form in Battle of Gods against Beerus, again in Dragon Ball Super in the Beerus Saga, and two times in the manga against Hit and Future Trunks.

  • Is immune to damage from mortals that utilize regular ki. However, he can be affected by god ki, and can be affected by regular ki if the ki is efficient enough to hurt gods.
  • Stats are multiplied far beyond his ordinary Super Saiyan forms.
  • Time limit of the Super Saiyan God form is mastered; unlimited time usage.
  • Presence cannot be sensed by mortals who do not possess godly powers.
  • Uses godly ki.
  • Access to past abilities from past forms; all multiplied
  • Kamehameha Rebirth -- First, Goku either lifts his hands joined together in the air or joins his hands to his side. Then, he charges the attack with his hands drawn his side, like a regular Kamehameha. Finally, he fires the attack towards his opponent in the form of a blue energy wave, inflicting countless amounts of incredible damage.
  • Can You Follow Me? -- In his Super Saiyan God form, Goku teleports in front of the opponent and delivers several high-speed punches and kicks. Named in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z.

Super Saiyan Blue Goku
Frieza: So, what is this? Super Saiyan with blue hair dye? „

— Frieza humourlessly questioning the Super Saiyan Blue form.

Goku first achieves the Super Saiyan Blue form after completely mastering the use of the Super Saiyan God form and implementing that power into his Super Saiyan form: allowing his Super Saiyan transformation to ascend into god level. Used against Golden Frieza, the form was ultimately weaker than the Ultimate Evolution despite its extremely powerful heights. However, due to Goku and Vegeta's long-time experience with the form, this form lasted longer and was proven stronger in terms of stamina usage.

Goku also uses this form several times along with Vegeta against Goku Black and Future Zamasu. However, Super Saiyan Blue is ultimately inferior to the stronger Super Saiyan Rose.

Goku utilizes this form again immediately when he begins his battle against Arale Norimaki, which also impresses the Android. Goku and Vegeta used this form again during Universe 6 and Universe 7's baseball match, and later when Goku fights Hit, who attempts to assassinate him, and proved to be quite a match for this form, thanks to fighting at his very best using killing techniques, with Goku unable to hit the assassin at all, because he was hiding in his Time Storage parallel world while he attacks the Saiyan using his deady Invisible ki blasts, and attacking him by surprise once briefly bursting out of his Time Storage parallel world, the fight ultimately ended in a stalemate when Super Saiyan Blue Goku unleashes a massive aura burst, and then destroys Hit's Time Storage world without the need to use Kaio-Ken, then launches a full-power God Kamehameha at Hit, with the assassin trying to hold his own against Goku's massive assault, and Vegeta during his training with Whis on Beerus' planet in preparation for the multi-universal tournament.

Goku once again transforms during his match against the giant Bergamo during the Zen Exhibition Match, to the shock and awe of all the deities seeing him transform, with Khai feeling and stating the form's godly pressure, and Roh labeling Goku's power in this form as "power rivaling that of gods", Future Zen-Oh called Goku amazing upon seeing him transform, with the present Zen-Oh telling him that it is called Super Saiyan Blue (he apparently recognized and oversaw Goku's usage and naming of the form back at the Universe 6 and 7 tournament from a distance), stating that it is not enough and that Bergamo needs extra power, Goku powers up to the Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken state, which gave him a massive power boost, and defeats the wolf after a brief beam struggle between his Wolfgang Penetrator and a 10x God Kamehameha.

Later, during his battle against the Freedom Warrior Toppo, Goku transformed once again into a Super Saiyan Blue to escape the Pride Trooper's crushing hold, and then proceeds to briefly outmatch him using his form's godly speed, but Toppo defends himself and puts up quite a better fight against Goku's godly ki surrounded form, both fighters clashing at intense speed, sending shockwaves that destroy anything around the battlefield, with Goku getting a slight advantage in the fight, later, he unleashes a God Kamehameha at the Pride Trooper, while he retaliated with his Justice Flash technique, Goku then uses his Instant Transmission and gets closer to Toppo, firing the Kamehameha afterwards, Toppo blocks it, causing a massive explosion, but the Pride Trooper sturdily survived, with the cost of a hole on the shoulder part of his suit, much to his anger, an enraged Toppo unleashes his aura, and Goku uses the Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken technique once more, and the two warriors attempt to "pass their limits", before they do so, the fight was stopped by the Great Priest, and Goku reverts to his base form shortly after. Later, an irritated Vegeta later goes Super Saiyan Blue twice upon hearing Mr. Satan and Yamcha clumsily cuddling Bulla, which causes her to cry, much to the others' confusion. Later that day, Goku transforms into Super Saiyan Blue during his sparring session with Krillin at the top of Satan Building in an effort to test his true might, with Krillin feeling Goku's godly pressure, and Android 18 and Gohan noticing a large gap in their powers. Krillin charges his Kamehameha while Goku charges his sightly larger God Kamehameha, both fighters fire their beams, and a Beam Struggle is initiated, while Android 18, Marron, and Gohan watch, as Goku slowly gains the upper hand during the beam clash. Struggling, Krillin tries to hold out his own with his own beam until the struggle is stopped when Android 18 rushes in and kicks Goku's God Kamehameha away. Krillin is knocked aback, twitching as if it is like an electric shock, when both husband and wife decided to fight as a team against him, but to their surprise, Goku reverts to his base form, exclaiming that the match is enough and that he learned a lot from them. Goku then used this form against Android 17 in their sparring session. Although neither fighters were fighting at full power, they were mainly at par with each other.

He briefly uses this form against Gohan out of respect for his son after Gohan demands him to use his full power. Goku atones to his level, trading blows with him before advancing to Kaio-ken.

Goku's hair stands completely up again, very identical to his Super Saiyan form's hair, only that one of the bangs protrudes right than left--possibly an inheritance of the Super Saiyan God form's hair style. Goku's hair gains a light blue color, and his muscle mass is slightly increased again, exactly like the Super Saiyan form's muscle mass. His eyes are also the same color of his hair. Furthermore, Goku's aura is composed of several colors but is truly a double aura. He has a godly aura with multiple colors of blue that flow inside, while direct contact of his body is surrounded with a slight green, sea-like glow. Sometimes, small pure white bio-electricity surges around him. The aura is outlined with a white small glow, while with another, a subtle gold glow that is possibly from the standard Super Saiyan form. Strange energy that looks like dense, cooling air also surrounds his body.

  • Is immune to damage from mortals that utilize regular ki. However, he can be affected by god ki, and can be affected by regular ki if the ki is efficient enough to hurt him.
  • Presence cannot be sensed by mortals who do not possess godly powers.
  • Uses godly ki.
  • Stats are multiplied far beyond that of Super Saiyan God.
  • Access to previous abilities and techniques, all of them multiplied
  • God Kamehameha -- Goku's most powerful Kamehameha up to date. Goku charges a lighter blue Kamehameha in his hands and releases the incredibly large wave upon an opponent. This technique can cause massive ton of damage, stronger than the Kamehameha Rebirth.
  • One-inch punch -- A close range punching technique. Used by Goku against Golden Frieza in Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’

Power Up Forms

Goku possesses a number of power up forms he has used multiple times in the Dragon Ball series. All of them used to fight many powerful foes to gain a better advantage from, and even one of them consisting of his Super Saiyan transformations. Here are all of his power up forms below.

Kaio-Ken X1 Goku
"Oh... it's the Kaioken attack. It's like a massive upsurge of energy. Everything is heightened: power, speed, even hearing and vision improve dramatically. You sort of become a super-self. But it can only be sustained for a short time, so you have to get the job done quickly." „

— Goku in "Lesson Number One"

The Kaio-Ken is a massive stat power boost created by King Kai in which the user has enhanced strength, speed and stamina and is solely made for using it against opponents stronger than the user. However, the only known user to successfully use the Kaio-Ken throughout the series has only been Goku. He now possesses a violet/red aura and his hair becomes a violet black with pink outlines, and his entire gi becomes engulfed in a RAGING red color.

  • Stats are doubled.
  • Kaio-Ken Kamehameha X1 -- While in his Kaio-Ken X1 form, Goku charges a giant blue Kamehameha and fires it upon an opponent.

Kaio-Ken X2 Goku

Goku's Kaio-Ken X2 form. He gains an additional power boost to all of his stats, further increasing his ability to attempt to attack an opponent.

  • Stats are doubled.
  • Kaio-Ken Kamehameha X2 -- Goku fires a stronger blue Kaio-Ken Kamehameha wave.

Kaio-Ken X3 Goku
Kaio-ken X3

Goku uses the Kaio-Ken X3 against Vegeta in the Saiyan saga when his previous Kaio-ken forms aren't working much against him. This puts another boost to Goku's stats.

  • Stats are tripled.
  • Kaio-Ken Kamehameha X3 -- Goku uses this technique against Vegeta when he fires his Gallick Gun.

Kaio-Ken X4 Goku
Kaio-ken X4

— Goku using Kaio-ken X4 against Vegeta in the Galick Gun-Kamehameha collision.

Goku uses this version of the Kaio-ken to boost his Kaio-Ken Kamehameha against Vegeta when he boosts his Gallick Gun. This causes an even greater boost to all of Goku's stats.

  • Stats are quadrupled.
  • Kaio-Ken Kamehameha X4 -- Goku uses this Kaio-ken Kamehameha against Vegeta as a powerful boost to his energy wave against Vegeta.

Kaio-Ken X20 Goku
Kaio-ken X20

Goku skips all 15 forms of the Kaio-ken and goes to Kaio-Ken X20. He uses this upgrade against Frieza in his final form.

  • Stats are multiplied 20x.
  • Kaio-Ken Kamehameha X20 -- Goku's X20 Kaio-Ken Kamehameha. He charges a blue Kamehameha and his hands and fires the explosive beam at the opponent.

Saiyan Saiyan Kaio-Ken Goku

This form is a combination between the Super Saiyan form and the Kaio-ken power-up. Goku uses this form against Pikkon at the Other World Stadium.

  • Stats are multiplied.
  • Super Kaio-ken Kamehameha -- The Super Kamehameha and the Kaio-ken Kamehameha mixed together.

Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-Ken X1 Goku
Kaioooooo-KEEEEEEN!!! „

— Goku using Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-Ken against Bergamo.

The Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-Ken was first seen used against Hit in the Universal Tournament. Knowing that Hit's moves were getting too strong for him, he was forced to use his Kaio-Ken, and even increase it 10x fold from his starter Kaio-Ken. This variation of the Kaio-ken boasts a double aura effect, placing a crimson Kaio-ken aura outside of a typical blue Super Saiyan Blue aura. The outer Kaio-ken aura manifests as violently fluctuating and jagged while the Super Saiyan Blue aura maintains a gentle, flame-like contour.

Goku began developing this technique for eventual use against Beerus. To use it, Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan Blue, then simply activates Kaio-ken in addition to it. As Goku has not yet mastered the technique, it has only a 10% chance of working and a 90% of failing, which had a chance of killing him. Thus, Goku must maintain an extraordinary amount of focus when activating the technique in order to ensure its success. Since Super Saiyan Blue has perfect innate ki control, Goku is able to utilize the power of the Kaio-ken in a similar manner to the way in which he can control it in his base form. By contrast, attempting to use the technique with his normal Super Saiyan transformation would almost certainly kill him, which he cited as the reason why he never attempted to use it in the past as a normal Super Saiyan. Use of this technique gifted Goku with such power that Hit's Time-Skip technique became ineffective, as Goku became so powerful while using it that he was able to strike Hit in spite of time being suspended. This form was even able to make Beerus nervous even before Goku increased its multiplier.

Goku briefly uses this technique once again in the "Future" Trunks Saga, in order to escape Fused Zamasu's grasp and send him flying with a swift kick. In the process, Goku manages to destroy Fusion Zamasu's Barrier of Light, but quickly returns to base form, unable to move.

Goku uses this technique a third time during the Zen Exhibition Match in his match against Bergamo, who was getting stronger with each blow Goku delivered until defeated by Goku's God Kamehameha. At this point, it appears that Goku was able to exercise a far greater degree of control with this form, as he did not succumb to any muscle spasms or contractions afterwards, but this could be because he didn't use the ten fold Kaioken as he did with Hit. He later uses this technique against Toppo before being stopped by Great Priest.

Goku later used this in a one-on-one match against a full power Potential Unleashed Gohan in preparation for the Tournament of Power, who was equal to a Saiyan beyond God-enhanced Super Saiyan 2 Goku. Out of respect, Goku transformed into Super Saiyan Blue after his son demanded him to, atoning to Gohan's level as they traded blows to which Gohan still demanded to use his full power. Prompting him to this, when Goku used Kaio-ken, he knocked Gohan out in just one punch.

  • Same techniques and abilities from Super Saiyan Blue form multiplied.

Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-Ken X10 Goku

— Goku using the X10 variant of Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken against Hit.

Goku attempts to use the x10 enhancement but after attempting to defeat Hit with it, the ten times Kaio-ken seemingly faded and his Kaio-ken dropped to a lower level for the rest of the fight. Boosting his power level by a ten times multiplier is the maximum level of this combination he has thus far demonstrated.

  • Stats are multiplied.
  • Same techniques and abilities from Super Saiyan Blue form multiplied.

Fusion Forms and Transformations

Along with his power up and transformation forms, Goku also contains immensely powerful fusion forms that form him between himself and Vegeta. Some of the transformations of the fusion forms are strong to the point where they have the strength of Goku's Super Saiyan God or Super Saiyan Blue level (without the immunity's and divine/godly ki requirements, of course), further proving that these fusions are incredibly powerful. Here are all of Goku's fusion forms below.

Super Gogeta
I am not Goku nor Vegeta! It's over Janemba, I've come for you! „

— Super Gogeta towards Super Janemba in Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn.

Every force you create has an echo. Your own bad energy will be your undoing. „

— Gogeta's words before he executes Super Janemba.

Gogeta (ゴジータ) (or Super Gogeta) is the product of the Fusion Dance between Goku and Vegeta, two highly powerful Saiyans as the form so far has only appeared once in the anime movie Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn. His voice is a dual voice that contains both Goku's and Vegeta's. Gogeta is famous for his amazing power and speed, and is regarded as one of the most powerful characters in the Dragon Ball franchise. Gogeta also wears the same clothes that all creations of the Fusion Dance wear, though Gogeta's vest has a different color scheme than Gotenks': the padding around the neck and shoulders of the vest is reddish orange rather than yellow, and the vest is black rather than the dark blue vest Gotenks wears. His hair is very similar to Vegito's, with the only differences being that Gogeta only has one free hanging lock of hair instead of two and Gogeta having Vegeta's widow's peak. Gogeta also acquires Goku's peach like skin rather than adopt Vegeta's more mild tan. Gogeta possesses Goku's body structure as he is tall and slender, but he seems to mostly possess Vegeta's facial features. Gogeta is also stronger than a Super Saiyan 3.

  • Stats are multiplied from both fusees and the combined Super Saiyan forms.
  • Has access to all abilities and techniques from Goku's base and Super Saiyan forms, along with Vegeta's base and Super Saiyan forms, all multiplied.
  • Stardust Breaker -- Super Gogeta's ultimate attack. Gogeta attacks the opponent with a powerful and quick barrage of punches in their stomach. Then, he flies past the stunned opponent and turns around to knee them twice in the back of their head/neck before backflip kicking them away. Next, he lands on the ground and raises his left hand to charge a rainbow energy sphere. Finally, Gogeta turns around and throws the energy sphere, which has a delayed effect around 5 seconds, but finally disintegrates the opponent from the inside.

"What do you call a Vegeta and a Goku? Vegito sounds alright." „

— — "Meet Vegito"

Vegito (ベジット, Bejitto; "Vegetto") is the immensely powerful result of the fusion between Goku and Vegeta by the use of the Potara Earrings. His voice is a dual voice that contains both Goku's and Vegeta's voices. Vegito is regarded most for his immense power and speed, and is the most powerful character in the Dragon Ball manga. He is about the same height as Goku, while his hair is more inclined toward Vegeta; it firmly stands upwards and is very dark brown in color, however, he has two bangs sticking out like a downward "V" shape, a trait caught from Goku. When he transforms into a Super Saiyan, he looks almost exactly like Goku. Vegito wears two earrings as result from the Potara fusion, and wears an inverted version of Goku's gi with the colors of the gi and undershirt reversed. The inversion is caused by adopting the color of Vegeta's outfit for the external wear, and using the orange of Goku's gi for the undershirt. Finally, he wears white gloves and boots in the same style as Vegeta.

Vegito is likely the strongest character in the entirety of Dragon Ball Z. In his base form, he is stronger than a Super Saiyan 3. He could likely kill Super Buu without trying, although in his base form he would likely have to try to a small extent, as his Super Saiyan form was many times superior to his base form.

  • Able to access both abilities and techniques from Goku and Vegeta in their base forms.
  • Stats multiplied from both fusees.
  • Complete Shot -- Vegito punches the opponent twice and uppercuts their chin before kicking them away. He then dashes after them to knock the opponent away with a punch and kick to their side. Vegito used this attack to batter around Super Buu, though the monster regenerated from the damage he received. This attack was named in Dragon Ball: Raging Blast and is one of Vegito's Super Attacks.
  • Savage Counter -- Vegito folds his arms and stands on one foot, holding his chin up to his opponent, saying "Hey how's that?" If the opponent hits in time, there is a pause in everything except time and camera movement, Vegito saying "Not fun!" Then, Vegito counters with a savage volley of kicks, then he finishes by kicking them away, saying "Take this!" It appears as his Signature Attack in Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2.

Super Vegito
"Call me Super Vegito!" „

— — "Meet Vegito"

The product of Vegito transforming into a Super Saiyan.. This transformation was used as a boost against Super Buu who had absorbed Ultimate Gohan, Piccolo, and Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks so he wouldn't be slightly powerful/equal to him, and become much more powerful to toy around with and finish him. He gains his Super Saiyan style in terms of appearance with the golden aura around him and his hair becoming a golden-orange-yellow color, and his muscle mass has increased, similar to the Ascended Super Saiyan/2nd Grade Super Saiyan's muscle mass.

Vegito as a Super Saiyan is many times stronger than a Super Saiyan 3. It's said that Vegito (although it's not specifically said that it's his base form, or Super Saiyan form, though likely in the latter) would be able to kill Super Buu within ease, without even trying as well. This was proven by his performance against him in Dragon Ball Z. It's also said that he could easily kill Kid Buu as well, without trying, as he would finish him more easily than Super Saiyan 3 Goku could if he had actually tried to kill him.

  • Abilities and techniques from both Goku and Vegeta's base and Super Saiyan forms and able to use abilities/techniques from base form.
  • Stats are multiplied from both fusees and the combined Super Saiyan forms.
  • Perfect Game -- A counter rush attack used by Vegito in his Super Saiyan form. Before the opponent attacks him, Vegito says "Hey, what's the matter?" as he punches the opponent in the stomach. Then, he punches the opponent in the face and spins around to knock them away with a roundhouse kick to their back. Finally, Vegito puts his hand forward and fires a large golden-yellow energy wave at the opponent, inflicting a massive amount of damage.
  • Banshee Blast -- Vegito reaches out with his right hand, body hunched over somewhat with all five of his fingers pointed at his opponent. In Dragon Ball fashion, he calls out the name of this attack while charging up five small yellow orbs of energy, one at the tip of each finger on his right hand. After doing so, he launches the potent orbs at his opponent. As Super Buu had sent a wave of Kamikaze Ghosts, Vegito used this attack to destroy them before they could do any amount of damage. In the Budokai Tenkaichi video game series, this technique is called the Scatter Finger Beam (it is more noticeable in Tenkaichi 3 as a charged ki attack).
  • Final Kamehameha -- This is one of or perhaps even the strongest attack that Vegito possesses This attack is a combination blend of the Final Flash attack and the Super Kamehameha. Vegito puts both of his hands in front of him, combining the energy of the Final Flash and the Super Kamehameha into a compact whitish blue sphere. The ball is surrounded by a blue aura with occasional streaks of blue electricity and is about the size of Vegito himself. Vegito fires off the ball, which creates a gigantic explosion on contact and leaves a huge cloud of smoke behind. The charge-up and hand positions are a bit different in the video games, where Vegito charges it like a Final Flash and fires it like the Kamehameha.
  • Spirit Canon -- Very similar to Spirit Sword, except the energy does not fan out like a sword. Vegito points towards his target, while preparing for the attack. It charges up, and then blasts whatever the target was. Vegito performed this attack on Super Buu, but he managed to regenerate. It has a slightly different effect in the Budokai video game series, with Vegito extending his hand towards the enemy, becoming surrounded by yellow energy and releasing a powerful yellow energy blast, instead of a constant beam of energy.
  • Spirit Sword -- A blade created from pure condensed ki around the right hand and formed into a sword-like object. It is usually roughly around twenty feet in length, and yet can be controlled to become longer or shorter, at Vegito's will. The cutting power of the blade cannot truly be measured very accurately, but using the attacks upon Super Buu as a gauge, it seems that this sword has incredible strength. Because this sword is created by a single usage of ki, and can continue to be used without dying out like a projectile, this could be considered one of Vegito's most devastating attacks. In the manga, he is never seen dealing significant damage to Super Buu, but instead toys with him, taunting him while he is still sticking the sword into Super Buu. This move is available to Vegito in several video games, like the Budokai and Budokai Tenkaichi series, where it is called the Spirit Sword and Beam Sword Slash, respectively. In the video game Supersonic Warriors 2, Goku and Vegeta have a team attack which allows them to become Vegito momentarily, who then uses this attack, labeled Super Bajit Sword, on the enemy.
  • Saiyan shield -- Vegito used this technique to put up a barrier around his body to avoid being turned into "buu goo" by Super Buu when he was absorbed by him. Named in Dragon Ball: Raging Blast.

Vegito Blue/Blue Vegito
And this is... Vegito, BLUE!! „

— -Vegito, titling his Super Saiyan Blue transformation.

Hmph. Sorry. You were way open there. C'mon, mister god. I'm through listenin' to your quibbling. Hurry up and try to squash me. „

— -Vegito Blue, after swiftly punching Fusion Zamasu during his speech

In Dragon Ball Super, as a last effort to finally defeat Fusion Zamasu, Goku and Vegeta are given the option to fuse with the Potara Earrings, and do so, instantly transforming into Super Saiyan Blue as Vegito Blue. Vegito Blue is used as a last effort assault against Fusion Zamasu.

In the anime, Vegito Blue is comparable to Fusion Zamasu, due to Fusion Zamasu being in his Super Saiyan Rose state, which allows Fusion Zamasu to become stronger each time he is damaged. In the manga however, even with how strong Fusion Zamasu is from Goku Black, Blue Vegito is easily capable of overpowering him without trying and even removes body parts of him. He toys with him through the whole way, until he takes the situation seriously and prepares a full-power Final Kamehameha, until he instantly defuses into a base form Goku and Vegeta.

  • Stats are multiplied from both fusees and their combined Super Saiyan Blue forms.
  • Has access to all abilities Goku and Vegeta possess, and they are all multiplied.
  • Has access to previous abilities in previous forms.
  • Is immune to damage from mortals that utilize regular ki. However, he can be affected by god ki, and can be affected by regular ki if the ki is efficient enough to hurt gods (although, due to how strong he is in this form, this has never been shown to confirm to Vegito Blue).
  • Presence cannot be sensed by mortals.
  • Uses godly ki.

  • In the original Japanese anime, Goku is voiced by the same voice actress throughout the series' run, Masako Nozawa. Additionally, Nozawa voices every biological male relative of Goku, with the exception of Raditz. In the FUNimation dub, he has been played by four actors: three as a child (one for the entire main series, and two others for miscellaneous projects) and only one for adult Goku. In the various Ocean/Blue Water dubs, eight actors have played him: three as a child, and five as an adult at various points of various different projects. In the Filipino dub, he was played by one actor. Goku is voiced by Jefferson Utanes in the Tagalog, Hiligaynon, and Cebuano dubs.
  • Despite being the main character, Goku has only officially won one World Martial Arts Tournament, and that was the 23rd against Piccolo. In all others, he either loses (to Jackie Chun and Tien Shinhan), or quits (due to the threat of Majin Buu, as well as later to train Uub). During Dragon Ball GT, he fights in the Jr. Division due to his child body, and loses when his competitor tickled him, causing him to fall out of the ring. Even in the Other World Tournament, the match ends in a draw because both Goku and Pikkon had touch the ceiling during their fight, which was technically a ring-out. He also loses the Cell Games when he forfeits.
  • Goku has shown an act of mercy to every major manga villain he battles from Piccolo onward. These acts of mercy include:
    • Giving Piccolo a Senzu Bean after narrowly defeating him in the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament
    • Letting Raditz's tail go when holding him in place for Piccolo's attack
    • Giving Nappa a chance to leave Earth after defeating him
    • Pleading with Krillin to keep him from killing Vegeta with Yajirobe's samurai sword
    • Merely wounding Recoome and Burter, giving them a chance to recover
    • Telling Vegeta not to kill Captain Ginyu after he turns into a frog
    • Giving Frieza some energy so he could flee Namek before it explodes
    • Giving Cell a Senzu Bean before letting Gohan fight in his place to guarantee that Cell would be fighting at his fullest
    • Telling Dende to heal Majin Buu and using the Dragon Balls to make sure that the majority of Earth's population would forget about the evil things done by Majin Buu so that Buu could live on Earth in peace.
  • On one occasion, in an interview with Shonen Jump in 1995, Akira Toriyama stated that Goku is his favorite character from the series. In previous statements, he claimed that Piccolo was his favorite, and before this, that Tien was his favorite.
  • In the Raging Blast video game series, Goku is the only character to have three ultimate attacks, which can be changed through customization.
  • Goku appears in every anime feature in the series with the exception of Dragon Ball: Episode of Bardock. He does however appear on the cover of the manga that the OVA was based on.
